How does a hearing aid fitting work?
The choice has been made!
Once a choice has been made as to which hearing aid best suits your needs and hearing loss, the next step is the final adjustment or setting of the hearing aids to your hearing loss and wishes. How exactly does this work?
How do we determine hearing loss?
A good hearing test is the basis for every hearing aid adjustment. We call this hearing test audiometry. In such a hearing test, your hearing is measured by means of a beep test. We then look at which pitches you can still hear and to what extent. In addition, we can do a test in which we can determine which loud tones are unpleasant for you. This is the level that we call the "uncomfortable level". We then measure the "bone conduction". In this way we can determine where the hearing problem lies. We then examine the loss in the conduction part, these are the eardrum and the ossicles, or in the inner ear the cochlea, this is called the perception loss. Finally, we do a speech test. With such a speech test (word test) we can determine what percentage you can still hear at a normal volume and at what volume you can hear at most. In this way we can somewhat estimate what is feasible with a good adjustment of the hearing aids.

We then connect to the PC containing the special software that allows us to set the hearing aid. The measurement is used to calculate how the hearing aid should be set. We call this a "First Fit". This calculation is unique for each manufacturer. A "Feedback test" is also usually performed. This is a test with the hearing aids in the ear where we see what sound escapes from the ear. In this way, unnecessary ringing can be prevented and we have a good return on the sound that we send into the ear with the devices. The hearing aid is further set to your wishes. For example, we can add extra programs and make certain functionalities available.
Then it gets exciting! The new hearing aids!
The hearing aids that have been installed are then further prepared by the audiologist. That is to say, the correct size of the speakers and the correct way to bring the sound into the ear. Bringing the sound into the ear is usually done with a universal solution in the form of a kind of umbrella. We call this a "dome" (rubber caps). The type we choose depends on the degree of hearing loss. For example, with greater hearing loss, it is better to close off the ear canal a little more. The hearing aids are now ready for shipment and we will send them to you. The devices are ready for use immediately upon receipt.
